Boston University
James E. Scott is the director of the Graduate Program in Banking and Financial Law. He has over thirty years of experience, working at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System and many major financial institutions. Most recently Senior Advisor to Morgan Stanley, he was previously General Counsel, Morgan Stanley Bank, N.A. and Chief Bank Regulatory Counsel. Prior to Morgan Stanley he was with Cadwallader, Wickersham & Taft, LLC, Citigroup, Venable Baetjer, Howard & Civiletti, LLP, Bankers Trust Company, Bank of America, Security Pacific National Bank and the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System. He has many years of teaching experience, at university level and in the American Bar Association’s CLE programs. He teaches Banking Structure and Regulation.

Background
Jim Scott is a lecturer of finance at the Moore School of Business. His teaching focuses on risk management and insurance. Prior to joining USC, he managed and developed insurance products first at an insurance carrier (Companion Property and Casualty) and then at a surplus lines broker (Coastal Insurance Underwriters). Prior to a career in insurance, he served as a naval officer and attained a master’s in international business at the Moore School. He holds the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Associate in Reinsurance (ARe) and Associate in Surplus Lines Insurance (ASLI) designations.

Biography
James Scott received a B.S. in mathematics from the University of Texas, a master's in mathematics from the University of Cambridge, and a Ph.D in statistics from Duke University. His research interests include statistical model selection, time series analysis, graphical models, and other topics in Bayesian statistics.
