Biography
At Google, James is the Southeast Asia lead for the Global BD team. In this role, he drives deals and initiatives to distribute Google Assistant and Search and drive Google’s monetization efforts, enable first of its kind partnerships with telcos, 3P apps and devices.
James is a co-founder of T.Ware, a wearable technology startup based in Singapore with a global user base. T.Ware focuses on creating novel wearable technology applications. Its vision is 'to understand human discomfort to deliver the right touch'. T.Ware secured VC and Spring SEEDS funding, and its TJacket product found customers from educational centers globally.
Previously, James worked as a Research Fellow at the Interactive Digital Media Institute, National University of Singapore (NUS). He completed his Ph.D in Electrical & Computer Engineering at NUS. As a researcher, his main interests center around the topics of HCI, user centered design, remote interaction and computer-mediated communication, haptics and tangible interaction. He has authored academic papers, and also won an art award at the prestigious VIDA 8.0 Art & Artificial Life International Competition, Fundación Telefónica. His works are shown on National Geographic, Discovery Channel, NHK Japan, The Straits Times (Singapore), WiredNews and CNN. He has also shown his works in CHI and SIGGRAPH. He has experience working and collaborating internationally, in NEC C&C Lab (Japan), Virginia Tech (USA), Keio University (Japan) and NBC Universal (USA). His projects are cross disciplinary, allowing him to collaborate with artists, designers, psychologists, and technical engineers.
