Biography
MIT CTL: MIT Center for Transportation and Logistics
Dr. Javad Feizabadi is an associate professor at the Malaysia Institute for Supply Chain Innovation (MISI) with the Global SCALE Network and a research associate with Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is also the director of the Ph.D. program, Ph.D. Winter academy, and the Mobility Center of Excellence at MISI.
Dr. Feizabadi’s primary research interest focuses on designing and managing supply chains in a highly volatile business landscape. Specifically, he investigates the challenges associated with supply chain configurations which are exposed to various sources of turbulence. Contributing to the scholarly domain of adaptable supply chain in both nascent and established markets has been the main concentration of his research. Dr. Feizabadi’s research is not constrained by the method and he uses different research designs as long as there is a fit between the state of scholarly literature and the research question. In some of his recent research projects, he has utilized various research designs including grounded theory, mathematical modeling, survey and field experiments etc. wherever the research question matches with the state of literature.
Before joining academia, Dr. Feizabadi worked in the automotive industry for eight years on aligning supply chain with the firm’s business strategy. He has a B.S. in industrial management, an M.S. in Industrial Management – Majored in Operations Research and a Ph.D. in Operations Management from the University of Tehran, Iran. He is honored to be ranked first in nation-wide Ph.D. and MS entrance examinations. Dr. Feizabadi also worked as a research associate at IMD Switzerland.
Javad Feizabadi is an Associate Professor of Operations and Supply Chain Management at Asia School of Business and a Research Affiliate at MIT Center for Transportation and Logistics. Before joining ASB, he worked as Associate Professor at MIT Global SCALE Network center. He holds a Ph.D. in Operations Management. Apart from the academic experience, he worked for over ten years in industries with complex products such as automotive, agricultural machinery, and equipment.
His primary research area focuses on the system-level understanding of supply chain phenomena. In particular, he explores the interdependencies in supply chain systems at various levels of analysis, i.e., firm, dyads, supply chain/supply networks. In the context of endogenous and exogenous sources of changes and consequent adaptation’s need, understanding multi-dimensional and interdependent dynamics/events are paramount to enhance the system’s cognitive ability and develop appropriate response and supply chain design. His scholarly research has appeared in journals such as Strategic Management Journal, International Journal of Production Economics, Journal of Business Logistics, among others.
