Biography

Dr. Jennifer Tang, PhD, LP (pronouns: she/her/hers), is the founder and director of Everwell Integrative Health and Counseling Services. She received her PhD and MS in Counseling Psychology from Northeastern University, and graduated magna cum laude from Mount Holyoke College. She is a licensed clinical psychologist with over 18 years of mental health experience working with a diverse range of clinical and socio-cultural populations, therapeutic approaches, and treatment settings. She has training in individual, group, play, couples, and family therapy for children and adults of all ages and backgrounds. At Everwell Health and Counseling Services, she is passionate about helping individuals feel valued, seen, and supported, and empowering others to seek their potential.

Dr. Tang also has extensive specialized training in evidence-based treatments, i.e. research-supported, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectal Behavioral Therapy (DBT), from Harvard Medical School hospitals, including McLean Hospital and the Massachusetts Mental Health Center. She has extensive experience working with anxiety, depression, relational difficulties, and cultural and diversity issues. She also has special interest in Asian American mental health as well working from an intersectionality lens.

Dr. Tang works collaboratively and actively with her clients to help them to increase their capacity for problem solving and coping skills, as well as using a strength-based approach to empower individuals to recognize their strengths and resources. She tailors her treatment based on the unique needs and backgrounds of each of her clients. She uses an integration of CBT, DBT, mindfulness, solution-focused treatment, play therapy, and expressive arts. She strives to assist clients in navigating life challenges, and pursuing a more meaningful, enriching, and fulfilling life.

Dr. Tang is also an advocate for social justice and values diversity, equity, and inclusion. She can work with you in providing multicultural counseling to explore how your unique cultural, ethnic, gender, sexual, and religious identities are interwoven in influencing who you are and shaping your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Feminist therapy also is utilized in identifying how personal experiences as well as systemic and institutional influences can shape us and our challenges. However, Dr. Tang believes in the growth mindset, that we all have the capacity for change, to unlearn unhealthy behaviors or beliefs about ourselves, and strive towards a more meaningful and fulfilling life.

Jennifer has also taught graduate courses ranging from Counseling Theories and Skills, Counseling with Children and Adolescents, Couples and Family Therapy, as well as Culture and Diversity. She has lectured and taught at University of Michigan, Harvard University's Graduate School of Education, Boston University, Salem State University, and Northeastern University. She also values raising mental health awareness in our community and has participated in speaking engagements at local organizations, like the Ann Arbor Public Library.
