Quinlan School of Business
Jermaine Truax is in his second year as Loyola's Deputy Athletics Director, coming to Rogers Park after a five-year stint at Bowling Green. Truax is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the department and has direct oversight of the internal functions of the department. He serves as sport administrator for women's basketball, women's volleyball, women's golf, men's golf, and men's soccer and, additionally, is the secondary sport administrator for men's basketball, assisting the Athletics Director with the daily administration of the program. Truax also represents Loyola Chicago at Missouri Valley Conference meetings and serves on the conference's sport management committee.
Truax is an adjunct faculty member in the prestigious Quinlan School of Business on campus, where he teaches undergraduate sports finance. He also serves on the campus' Safety Net Coalition Committee to address issue related to student substance abuse.
One of the country's fast-rising administrators, Truax was selected for the distinguished NCAA Pathway Program in January, 2016, one of only 23, senior-level athletics administrators chosen for the program, which is a unique, year-long, experiential learning opportunity for administrators committed to becoming directors of athletics. In 2016, Truax graduated from the prestigious Sports Management Institute Executive Program that prepares athletics administrators in critical areas including management strategy, legal and ethical behavior, marketing, media relations and the management of financial, physical and human resources.
Truax is a former Rising Star recipient, given by the National Association for Athletics Compliance (NAAC). He has participated in the NACDA Senior Administrators Mentoring Institute that assists and prepares senior level administrators in athletics administration who are one step away from becoming an athletics director. Additionally, he has had past appointments on the NAAC Legislation and Governance Committee, and was a member of the Constitution and Bylaws Committee for the Black Coaches and Administrators (BCA).
Truax came to Loyola Chicago after a five year stint at Bowling Green State University where he served as Associate Athletics Director for Compliance and Administration. In that capacity, Truax was responsible for the leadership and oversight of BGSU's comprehensive NCAA compliance program for over 400+ student-athletes. In addition to oversight of the compliance office, Truax was the sport administrator for men' cross country, women's cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field, and women's gymnastics and handled the strategic planning efforts of the department.
Prior to BGSU, Truax served as the Director of Compliance at St. Bonaventure University and also worked as the school's Coordinator of Internal Operations before being named the Compliance Director.
He has experience as a former football student-athlete, a former college football coach, and has worked in professional (NFL & Arena Football) sports in player personnel and operations. Truax received his Bachelor of Arts in Health & Physical Education (concentration sports administration) from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, and he received his Masters of Science in Sport Management from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania.
