Jeroen Luyten is associate professor at the Faculty of Medicine and head of the Leuven Institute for Healthcare Policy, one of the research units of the Department of Public Health and Primary Care at KU Leuven.

Before joining KU Leuven, prof. Luyten worked as a post-doc fellow in health economics at the London School of Economics, obtained a joint-PhD in health economics at the University of Antwerp and in philosophy at KU Leuven and obtained master degrees in economics (University of Antwerp and Université Toulouse) and philosophy (KU Leuven).

His research focuses on resource allocation and priority-setting in healthcare with previous studies investigating trade-offs between prevention vs treatment, fair rationing of critical resources and the role of future generations in Health Technology Assessment. He was also involved in several applied economic evaluation studies in healthcare domains including vaccination, assisted reproduction, genetic screening and mental health.

Prof. Luyten teaches courses on health economics, economic evaluation and public health ethics in KU Leuven's MSc in Global Health, Master in Healthcare Management and Policy, Master in Nursing and Midwifery, and the Master of Bioethics.

He’s also a member of the Executive Board of the Department of Public Health and Primary Care and member of steering committees of the Master in Healthcare Management and Policy and the MSc in Global Health, among others.
