Professor Schaller studies the effects of aggregate economic conditions and individual job loss on individual and family outcomes. Her current work explores the relationship between involuntary job displacements and the health insurance status, health care utilization, and health outcomes of adults and children. Professor Schaller also studies the effects of economic downturns and gender-specific labor market shocks on children’s health and child maltreatment rates and is currently investigating the economic determinants of childhood immunization. She has previously studied heterogeneity in the responsiveness of labor market outcomes to unemployment shocks across sociodemographic groups and the effects of general and gender-specific labor market outcomes on marriage, divorce, and fertility.
