Bio
Joan A. Kitunen, FCPA, FCA, is a member of CPA Canada and a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario. She is a member of the Accounting Faculty at the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto. She designs, coordinates and teaches taxation courses offered in the Accounting Specialist program in the BCom, and in the MMPA (Master of Management and Professional Accounting) program. She has been the recipient of numerous Rotman Excellence in Teaching Awards including the Roger Martin Award. As well, in 2012, she received the CICA Award for Excellence in Income Tax Practice and Education for Outstanding Contribution to the Profession and the Canadian Tax Community.
Kitunen is Co-lead author for the design and development of curriculum and supporting materials for the Elective Module in Taxation, forming part of the new CPA Professional Education Program. She is a Director of the CPA/Rotman Centre for Innovation in Accounting Education (2004 – present), Coordinator of the taxation segment of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario (The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario) School of Accountancy (1999 – 2014). Prior to joining the Faculty at the University of Toronto, Kitunen was a Tax Partner at Deloitte.
