Joanna Lam is Professor mso at the Faculty of Law, University of Copenhagen, Centre of Excellence for International Courts (iCourts) and Director of the Study Hub for International Economic Law and Development (SHIELD) at UCPH. Lam specializes in international business law and arbitration. Her current research focuses on investor obligations; transparency in trade and investment disputes; court-like mechanisms in investment dispute resolution; and on interpretation of international law.

Joanna Lam graduated from Harvard Law School and from University of Warsaw (summa cum laude). She holds doctoral and habilitation degrees in juridical sciences and is also a licensed attorney-at-law. She was a Fulbright Fellow at Harvard Law School in 2004/05 and subsequently held visiting appointments at UNIDROIT (2006), Harvard Law School (2007), University of California, Berkeley School of Law (2008) and Renmin Law School (2013). She is an author and editor of a number of books, including the monograph “Legal Interpretation in International Commercial Arbitration” (as Joanna Jemielniak, Routledge 2014), and the volume "Establishing Judicial Authority in International Economic Law" (Cambridge University Press 2016; Joanna Jemielniak, Laura Nielsen and Henrik Palmer Olsen eds.). Her articles were published in, inter alia: Journal of International Economic Law, Journal of International Arbitration, Maastricht Journal of European and Comparative Law, Leiden Journal of International Law and European Business Law Review.
