John Craner

Biography

After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant John spent several years in accounting and auditing practice. He completed a part time Masters in Accounting and Finance at the University of Birmingham and took up a lecturing post in 1985. During his time at Birmingham he was Head of the Department of Accounting and Finance and from 2000 to 2009 was Deputy Head and Director of Resources of Birmingham Business School. John has been a visiting Professor at universities in Zimbabwe, Poland and the Czech Republic. Throughout his career he has maintained close links with the accounting profession and has carried out consultancy work for professional accounting and finance bodies, commercial and financial organisations and public bodies. His research interests are in accounting and auditing in emerging economies and in accounting and tax education. He has published numerous academic articles and books. John joined WBS as a Senior Teaching Fellow in 2010.
