Villanova University

John C. Goodchild, III is an experienced trial lawyer focusing on disputes arising from fraud, misconduct, financial distress, and restructuring. He defends actions brought by bankruptcy trustees, receivers, and liquidators asserting breach of fiduciary duty, aiding and abetting, fraudulent transfer, subordination, and preference. He represents financial institutions, fiduciaries, and professionals in matters concerning alleged breach of duty to consumers, investors, beneficiaries, and clients. He leads cases involving US and non-US investment funds, enterprise and asset valuation, land use and condemnation, and auditing and accounting.

EXTENDED PROFILE

John has represented key stakeholders victimized by high-profile investment and private equity fund collapses. He regularly represents plan sponsors and health and welfare plans in employee benefits and ERISA litigation relating to workouts and distressed situations.

John is co-founder and lead coordinator of the Morgan Lewis Trial Academy, an intensive weeklong trial training program for the firm’s most senior associates. He serves as the chair of the firm's Fiduciary Review Committee. As an adjunct faculty member of the Villanova University School of Law, he teaches a course on trial presentation.
