IE Business School
John Monnelly holds an MBA from the Manchester Business School and is an associate by examination of the Institute of Investment Management and Research (UK).
He began his career in the financial industry in 1990 as an equity portfolio manager at the pension scheme of Pilkington Plc. From 1996 to 1999, he served as Deputy Chief Investment Officer, responsible for the domestic and international bond portfolios together with the US equity portfolio.
He joined Martin Currie Investment Management in 1999 as the UK team sole manager. In 2000, he moved to the Pan European Structure of the company as number two to the Head of team, specializing in telecoms and banks. Between 2002 and 2003, he specialized in global technology and telecom, running the MC’s Global Technology Fund. From 2003 to 2010, he served as co-manager (in a two-man team) of UK Active, an award winning equity neutral hedge fund, growing the assets from £120M to £1.9Bn over the period.
John Monnelly joined Auriga Global Investors in 2011 to launch Vitrio Real Return Fund.
Since 2012, he combines his professional activities as a fund manager with teaching in different master’s programs at the IE Business School in Madrid (Instituto de Empresa) as visiting professor of portfolio management, valuation and asset classes.
