John Nik Ding

Dr John Nik Ding is a Melbourne-based gastroenterologist who provides a patient-centred approach and cohesive ongoing treatment and care to people presenting with gastroenterological symptoms.

Dr Ding’s interests include bowel cancer screening, coeliac disease, irritable bowel syndrome and gastro-oesophageal reflux disease. He is a member of the Human Research Ethics Committee and sits on a number of international committees including the European Crohn’s and Colitis Organisation.

Currently the holder of a prestigious international grant awarded by the European Crohn’s and Colitis Organisation (ECCO), John’s extensive work in the field of IBD has led to his appointment onto the ECCO committee as the first non-European member, and he speaks at international and national conferences. He is also the founding member of the Young Australian Crohn’s and Colitis Network.

John’s PhD investigating therapy for people with IBD using microbiome and metabolic profiling has been cited internationally. He has recently returned from the London Imperial College where he had an appointment as a clinical lecturer.

Through innovation and the improvement of digital technology, Associate Professor Ding have also developed medCompanion (Medcompanion.com.au), an app that dispenses bowel preparation information to patients in a more accessible format. With detailed and personalised information for bowel prep, he knew it could optimise his patient’s chances of avoiding unnecessary procedures and decrease the risk of missing polyps; some of which can grow to become cancer.
