Experience
John is a former career military officer who also brings 19 years of corporate business experience to the table. He is a skilled leadership development educator, executive coach and organization consultant who has spent the majority of his career building high performing teams. He has a demonstrated track record, in multiple industries, within top Fortune companies, delivering business results by focusing on improved human performance.
He has a unique set of skills blending extensive corporate learning and development expertise with proven operational leadership in the military.
John began his career in the Air Force as a Missile Combat Crew Commander responsible for a Titan II Intercontinental Ballistic Missile. He later served in the Instructor Training Group (teaching weapon system) and then transitioned into the learning and professional development arena with two faculty assignments at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado. He further honed his analytical and communication skills while working in the intelligence community in the Washington, D.C. area.
Accenture (formerly Andersen Consulting) hired him to work on systemic change management efforts at companies such as Harley Davidson, Best Buy, and Gap. John joined the learning and development divisions of both Coors Brewing Company and Honeywell Aerospace leveraging his knowledge of human behavior and organizational performance.
He became the Director of Organizational Effectiveness for JetBlue Airways in October of 2007 where he led the leadership and talent development program. He has a passion for helping new leaders accelerate their learning curve.
Most recently, John helped Fast Retailing (the $13.4 billion Japanese retailer known for the Uniqlo brand) use their culture as a competitive advantage. As Vice President – Learning and Development, he was responsible for this global company’s leadership development initiatives in the United States.
Current Role
John serves as a leadership solutions partner at the Center for Creative Leadership and is responsible for several open enrollment leadership development programs. In addition, he helps clients create custom experiences designed to enhance leadership capability and help organizations deal with ever-changing environments.
Educational Background
John graduated from the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) and has an MA degree in Economics from Duke University. He also earned his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Pittsburgh (but insists he has maintained his sense of humor). He completed his coaching certification at the iCoach New York program and is qualified to administer Myers-Briggs Type Indicator®, Learning Type Measure® and other psychometric instruments.
