Jonathan Crystal

Jonathan Crystal came to Fordham in 1997 as an assistant professor in the Department of Political Science. He earned tenure and was promoted to associate professor in 2003. Before arriving at Fordham, he earned his B.A. (1987) and Ph.D. (1996) in political science, both from Harvard University. His scholarly research centers on political responses to economic globalization, the politics of international trade and investment, and the role of multinational corporations in the global political economy. His publications include Unwanted Company: Foreign Investment in American Industries (Cornell University Press, 2003), as well as articles in Review of International Political Economy, International Studies Quarterly, Business & Politics, European Journal of International Relations, and Global Society. He has taught courses in international politics, international political economy, and U.S. foreign policy.

Crystal became associate vice president for academic affairs and associate chief academic officer in the Office of the Provost in 2011. In that role, he worked closely with faculty, deans, and other administrators to enhance academic excellence at Fordham. He provided leadership and oversight on matters such as strategic planning, faculty recruitment and development, research, and programmatic and curricular innovation. In 2016, he co-chaired the Middle States Self-Study Steering Committee that led the University through its successful reaccreditation.
