Joseph Nwoye

Adjunct Professor at Strayer University

Biography

Dr. Joseph Nwoye is the founder and president of Systemic Diversity and Inclusion Group Company, Inc. (SDIG). Dr. Nwoye is passionate about creating diverse work environments where everyone feels valued and included. He has over 20 years of experience as a professional development leader specializing in diversity and inclusion research, strategy, and implementation.

His vision and advocacy for diversity and inclusion are based on his discrimination assessments in public institutions. Dr. Nwoye believes public organizations must embrace a consumer-oriented approach to diversity and inclusive education and workplace practices. This approach includes using Strength, Weakness, Opportunity, and Threat (SWOT) analysis, D&I situation analysis, assessment components, and a variety of evidence-based techniques to examine the state of diversity and inclusion in any organization he works with and develop the necessary solutions.

Dr. Nwoye’s life works include serving as Chair of the College Diversity Committee at Montgomery College in Maryland. His holistic diversity and inclusion work has been dubbed the Montgomery College diversity signature program for culturally responsive teaching.

Dr. Nwoye has been a pioneer and innovator in diversity and inclusion. He launched the first student diversity and inclusion annual conference at the Center for Multicultural Education — a meeting that focused on encouraging diverse communities to share their unique experiences to harness the power of storytelling.

In addition to storytelling, Dr. Nwoye believes that overcoming divisiveness and discriminatory practices that divide our society into binary experiences is accepting that these divisions exist. Once we accept that these issues exist, Dr. Nwoye asserts that we should dissect and understand why such divisions exist. Doing so will allow us to bring forward specific goals that will enable us to eradicate the problems in society caused by artificial walls of division. Dr. Nwoye’s experience, the body of work, and professional development strategies for advancing global diversity and inclusion serve as a collective quest for peace, equality, and social justice.
