McDonough School of Business
Joseph Podwol is a Staff Economist at the U.S. Department of Justice, Antitrust Division. Since joining the DOJ in 2012, he has investigated competition issues in a broad swath of industries, including wholesale electricity, oil and gas exploration, healthcare, telecommunications, steel manufacturing, and milk. His academic research, utilizing theory and empirics, has appeared in the European Economic Review, the Journal of Industrial Economics, as well as the Antitrust Division’s Discussion Paper Series. Dr. Podwol is an Adjunct Professor at Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business where he teaches a course in applied game theory to graduate students. He has also co-taught the core strategy course within the M.B.A. program at Georgetown. During the 2016-17 academic year, he was the Victor Kramer Fellow at Harvard Law School, where he researched topics at the intersection of industrial organization and antitrust law. He received his Ph.D. in economics from Cornell University.
