Biography

Since  joining CCSR as a PhD student researching changes in men and women''s labour market participation by family status using the Labour Force Survey from 1975 - 1996, Jo has worked in a number of projects relating to secondary data enhancement, support and use.  She has particular interests in government surveys, census microdata, learning and training.

These include:

  • UK Data Service - Census Support Service (2012 - present) - data support
  • Enhancing and Enriching Historic Census Microdata (2012 - present) - data enhancement
  • Teaching quantitative methods in disciplinary context: integrating quantitative method and evidence into the Social Science undergraduate curriculum - teaching use of data (2012 - present)
  • Samples of Anonymised Records Support Team (2001 - 2012) - data support and enhancement
  • Economic and Social Data Service, Government Team (2002 - 2012) - data support and enhancement
  • Microdata, research facilities and work practice in the UK Social Science Community (2008-2009) - data use research project
  • Increasing the use of large scale social surveys in undergraduate dissertations in the Social Sciences: a pilot project (2007 - 2009)

Additionally she has been involved in delivery secondary analysis skills training to postgraduate students at Manchester as well as delivering a number of short courses in statistics software.

Her postgraduate education has been in social research methods, social statistics, sociology and information management.
