Josh Burek

Josh Burek is an Adjunct Lecturer in Public Policy and the Director of Global Communications and Strategy for Harvard Kennedy School’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs, the world’s No. 1-ranked university think tank. A member of the Center’s senior management team, Burek is responsible for setting and leading the Center’s publishing and editorial operations, digital platforms, multimedia, marketing, branding, and outreach to donors, government, and media. He has taught workshops and guest lectured on opinion writing at Harvard Kennedy School since 2007. Burek served as senior editor for Graham Allison’s 2017 book, “Destined for War: Can America and China Escape from Thucydides’s Trap?”

Before coming to the Belfer Center, Burek was the Executive Director for Marketing and Communications at the American Enterprise Institute in Washington, where he engineered a major website merger and redesign, and a substantial increase in multimedia policy impact. For 12 years, he worked as a journalist for The Christian Science Monitor, where he wrote or edited thousands of articles on policy, politics, international security, and religion, and interviewed thought leaders from David McCullough to Benazir Bhutto. As the Monitor’s Opinion editor, he won several awards, including for a series on ending poverty. Burek has a B.A. in political science and economics from Principia College and an M.T.S. from Harvard Divinity School.
