Joshua Waitzman

I am a Nephrologist at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. I see patients at Beth Israel Deaconess-Lexington and study the molecular mechanisms that cause focal segmental glomerulosclerosis.

I completed my MD/PhD training in biochemistry and biophysics at Northwestern. During my graduate work in the laboratory of Dr. Sarah Rice, I determined the mechanism of a kinesin motor involved in mitosis and identified a novel phosphoregulatory mechanism that governs its activity.

I completed my residency in Internal Medicine at Northwestern Memorial Hosptial in 2017. I completed two years of clinical Nephrology training at Northwestern, and then continued my research training at BIDMC.

My research focuses on the biochemistry and biophysics of proteins that cause kidney disease, particularly ApoL1 and INF2.
