Kai Fischbach has been President of the Otto Friedrich University of Bamberg since October 1, 2020. Previously, he held the chair for business informatics, in particular social networks, in the faculty of business informatics and applied computer science.
After studying mathematics and social sciences, he did his doctorate at WHU - Otto Beisheim School of Management and also worked as a research assistant at the University of Cologne and the University of Siegen. He gained international experience as a visiting scholar at the Center for Collective Intelligence at the Sloan School of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT, USA), the Department of Business Administration at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC, USA) and the Robinson College of Business from Georgia State University (GSU, USA).
In Bamberg, he took on a variety of tasks in the university self-government: he was, among other things, dean and chairman of the doctoral committee of the faculty of business informatics and applied computer science, chairman of the senate, deputy chairman of the university council, as well as a member of the management committee of the Center for Innovative Applications of Computer Science (ZIAI) and a member of the academic advisory board of the language center. He was a liaison lecturer at the Bavarian Elite Academy and is a member of the board of the German Society for Network Research and a deputy board member of the Bavarian University Center for Latin America (BayLat).
