Kathy Khuu, Senior Advisor, Economic Development and Local Content, Government Relations, Shell International
Kathy Khuu is a senior adviser for economic development and local content at Shell where she advises senior business leaders, management, and project/asset teams on the joint role of government and industry in delivering development outcomes for natural resource countries through market - driven principles.
Previously, she was a senior specialist at the World Bank. Kathy has 20+ years experience advising developed and developing countries on investment issues relating to policy and strategy development; increasing linkages and spillovers from investment; SEZs; and SME development. Kathy has delivered lectures to policy makers around the globe. She has been posted in Austria, Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Jerusalem, the Netherlands, Timor Leste, and D.C.
Kathy was a Special Assistant at the Antitrust Division of the U.S Justice Dept where she was recruited through the Outstanding Scholars Program. She worked on two cases relating to large US mergers and acquisitions in the health insurance and medical devices sector. At the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC), she analyzed the economic impacts of US investments in frontier markets on the US economy.
Kathy has worked as a consultant for PWC, APCO worldwide, and Associates for Rural Development, where she advised MNCs on their investments in emerging markets, including political risk and corporate social responsibility. She was an adviser to the CEO of the Palestine Investment Fund where she promoted and facilitated joint Israeli- Palestinian investments.
Kathy has degrees in International Economics, Asian studies, and pre - medicine from the Johns Hopkins University (Masters) and Oberlin College (Bachelors) where she was a NASA fellow and a Presidential science scholar. She obtained certificates from Harvard Business School (leadership and strategy); the World Trade Institute (International law and economics), and the Johns Hopkins- Nanjing University center (Economics, Chinese studies).
