Biography

Dr. Kelley Cours Anderson is an Assistant Professor of Marketing for the Department of Management and Marketing at College of Charleston. Dr. Anderson earned her PhD from Texas Tech University and was previously a visiting scholar at York University. She received her MS and BS at the University of North Texas.

Her scholarship focuses on how emerging digital media technology impacts the way we consume and build markets and is informed and motivated by 15 years of industry experience leading CRM and consumer insights teams. Before returning to academia, Dr. Anderson worked for companies such as Walmart, Golfsmith, and Stage Stores. She is passionate about bringing her industry experience into the classroom in courses including Integrated Marketing Communication, Digital Marketing, Marketing Concepts, and Marketing Management. While teaching at Texas Tech University, she received the Helen DeVitt Jones Excellence in Graduate Teaching Award (2020).

Dr. Anderson’s research reveals the benefits and consequences of technology-enabled actor-networks. Studying emerging technology, such as AI-enabled platforms, Virtual Reality, and social media, Dr. Anderson’s research program inspires several research projects. She enjoys collaborating with small businesses and technology firms to develop cutting-edge research, and her working papers have been honored with several awards. She received the Franco Nicosia Competitive Paper Award at the 2019 Association for Consumer Research Conference for her paper “The Path from Innovative Marketing Medium to Value-Creation: An Experience in Virtual Reality.” Her paper titled “Super-Heroes at Your Service: Business Communities Inspiring Creativity to Mitigate Crisis” was the recipient of the Sharon Beatty Best Paper in Services Marketing Award at the 2020 Society for Marketing Advances Conference. Also in 2020, her work entitled “Early Adoption of Innovative Media into Digital Marketing Strategies: The Radical Influence of Virtual Reality” was awarded the Jane K. Fenyo Best Student Paper Award at the Association of Marketing Science Conference.
