Biography

Kim Langfield-Smith is Emeritus Professor in the Department of Accounting, Monash Business School.

She was formerly Vice-Provost (Academic Performance), reporting to the Provost and Senior Vice-President and a part of the Monash University senior management team. She holds a BEc from the University of Sydney, MEc from Macquarie University and PhD from Monash University.

Prior academic positions include Deputy Dean (Research) and Head of the Department of Accounting and Finance in the Faculty of Business and Economics, at Monash University and Head of the School of Business at La Trobe University.

Professor Langfield-Smith researches in the area of management accounting, specifically, performance measurement systems, management control systems, strategy. She has received three awards from the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) for her contribution to management accounting research.

She was a member of the Research Evaluation Committee for the Social, Behavioural and Economic Sciences (SBE) for ERA 2010, and Chair, 2012 ERA Research Evaluation Committee for Economics and Commerce. She was also been a member of the Business and Economics Panel for New Zealand's 2012 PBRF (Performance-based research fund) assessment.

For many years she was the chair of the Professional Qualifications Advisory Committee and the Accreditation Advisory Committee of CPA Australia. Fpr six years she was the nominee of CPA Australia and ICAA on the International Accounting Education Standards Board (IAESB). She was chair of BARDsNet, the network of associate deans of business schools in Australia and New Zealand, and a former president of AFAANZ (Accounting and Finance Association of Australia and New Zealand). Prof. Langfield-Smith is a fellow of both CPA Australia (FCPA) and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (FCA).

In 2014 she was awarded a Life Time Achievement Award by CPA Australia, and in 2016 Life Membership of AFAANZ.
