Biography
Kim Ruhl, Associate Director of the Center, is the inaugural holder of the Mary Sue and Mike Shannon Chair in Economics, which is jointly funded by generous gifts from the Shannons and the Charles Koch Foundation. He is also a research associate at the NBER, and a special sworn employee of the Bureau of Economic Analysis. A native of Wisconsin, he graduated from Madison East High School. Later he earned a B.S. in Economics from Bowling Green State University and a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota. Prior to joining UW-Madison in 2018, he held faculty positions at the University of Texas-Austin, New York University’s Stern School of Business, and Penn State. His research focuses on policy issues broadly related to international economics. He also heads the CROWE data initiative, which aims to centralize state-level data resources and produce relevant state-focused analysis. He has been an associate editor of Economics Letters, the International Economic Review, and the Review of Economic Dynamics and also organizes the Atlanta International Workshop with Simon Fuchs, Federico Mandelman, and Vivian Yue.
