Biography
Harvard Medical School
Dr. Lana Vasung received her MD degree from the University of Zagreb, Croatia. After her graduation, she pursued her PhD in Neuroscience, under the mentorship of prof. Ivica Kostovic, focusing on the development of transient fetal zones during human brain development. Her PhD was partially carried out at Montreal Neurological Institute, Montreal under the guidance of prof. Alan Evans and his team. Following her graduation, she moved to Geneva, Switzerland where she worked both as a clinician and researcher under the mentorship of prof. Petra Huppi. Her research was focused on identification of imaging biomarkers of normal and abnormal human brain development. In 2016 she was awarded a Swiss National Science Foundation Advanced Post.Doc Mobility grant to investigate the development of human gyrification during normal and abnormal (lissencephaly, polymicrogyria, and microcephaly) brain development. Her research interests lie in deepening the knowledge in human specific neuroanatomy, and in understanding which histogenic mechanisms drive individually specific patterns of gyri and sulci. Lana hopes to continue her career in academic medicine by bridging the gaps between clinical disciplines (neurology, neurosurgery, and neuro-radiology) and basic research.
