Lene Hviid

Lene is the Shell Manager Materials & Corrosion based in Amsterdam with teams in Houston, Beijing and Amsterdam, reporting to VP Integrated Gas Technology.

She joined Shell in 2013 from Tata Steel where she managed the global R&D team for surface improvement and surface quality control

Prior to this, she built bridges between industry and academia, working as the Program Manager at the Technological Top Institute for Materials Innovation in The Netherlands. Earlier, she was a Researcher at Risø National Laboratory for Sustainable Energy, Denmark.

Lene has a background in organic chemistry and physical chemistry, with several advanced qualifications from universities in Denmark and Sweden. She studied for her PhD at the University of Amsterdam and has extensive experience in the field of industrial research.

Lene holds various government science advisory positions and technical society roles.
