INSEAD Business School
Li Huang is an Assistant Professor of Organisational Behaviour at INSEAD. She holds a PhD in Management and Organisations from the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University.
Professor Huang's research examines how the tension between contradictory psychological forces drives and regulates individual's mental, social, and organisational life suggesting that intrapersonal contradictions, though aversive, possess motivational properties and can be resolved in ways adaptive to organisations and societies. She is especially interested in 1) how creativity can emerge from or how individual's sense of control can be affected by the tension between internal states and external expressions, 2) how social, organisational, and psychological factors help resolve the tension between self- and other-interest to inspire trust, cooperation, and ethical decisions, as well as 3) how the tension between individual goals and social or cultural norms regulate individual's power seeking and affiliative behaviors.
Professor Huang has published in leading academic journals such as Academy of Management Journal, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Psychological Science, Social Psychological and Personality Science, and Behavioral and Brain Sciences. Her research has been recognised by the scientific community through awards and grants from the American Psychological Association and the Dispute Resolution Research Center. Her research and insights have also received numerous media mentions including The Economist, The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Scientific American, Business+Strategy, The Boston Globe, Canada’s Globe and Mail, and The Times of India.
Professor Huang teaches the Negotiations course in the MBA and the Executive Education programmes as well as the Organisational Behaviour course in the PhD programme. Prior to joining the INSEAD faculty, she was a lecturer of Management and Organisations at the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University. A native of China, she has lived and worked for several years in the United States.
