Biography

After several years teaching and lecturing I began a full-time PhD in the Faculty of Medical and Human Sciences at the University of Manchester. I started as a lecturer in the School of Medicine in 2000.  

Current research focus: 

• psychological aspects of long-term physical illness, particuarly inflammatory joint and skin conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis (adults),  juvenile arthritis, psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis.
• psychological and physical comorbidities of inflammatory diseases
• self-management including adherence to medication and lifestyle behaviour changes
• cognitive representations of illness, pain
• patient reported outcome measures
