Biography

Merage School of Business

Dr. Lisa Barron is a faculty member of Organization and Management at The Paul Merage School of Business, University of California, Irvine. She teaches creativity, negotiation, communication, organizational behavior and leadership. Lisa has received twenty teaching awards for her negotiation, strategic communication, and organizational behavior courses. She also has taught executive education courses at UCLA, UCI, CalTech, the Keck Graduate School and Utah State University.

Lisa teaches a variety of courses at large and small organizations including Microsoft, Medtronic, Kyphon, Ingram Micro, State Street, MicroSemi, MicroVention and Boeing. In her workshops on negotiation, communication, leadership or creativity, Lisa strives to translate research and models into practice so participants can take what they’ve learned and put it into action.

Lisa also works as executive coach. She specializes in helping high-potential performers become their most effective selves at work.

Lisa’s research has been published in the journals Human Relations, Career Development International, and Journal of Management Inquiry and has been written about or recognized in The Boston Globe, The Washington Post, The New York Times, Glamour, The Huffington Post, and the Orange County Register. In addition, she (or her work) has been featured on radio programs for WBUR, KNX, CBS and NPR.

Prior to her academic career, Lisa worked as an advisor to undergraduates and as a consultant and trainer at the Data Center at Stanford University. She also marketed IT training programs.

Lisa is a member of the Academy of Management and the American Psychological Association and a certified mediator. She has reviewed for leading journals in the fields of Management and Psychology. She received a Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior and an MBA from The Anderson School at UCLA and a BA in Psychology and English from Stanford University.

Lisa loves to travel, cook (and eat), cycle, read, scuba dive, draw, paint and collect handmade earrings and folk art. She is a board member of Operation Jump Start (OJS), a mentoring organization that works with low-resourced, high-potential youth to help them get in, stay in, and graduate from a 4-year college.
