Lorenzo Tomasin (Venice, 1975) has been full professor of History of the Italian language since 2012, and since 2014 of Romance Philology. Previously he taught or carried out research activities at the «Ca 'Foscari» University of Venice (of which he was Vice Rector), at the «L. Bocconi» University of Milan and at the Scuola Normale Superiore of Pisa, where he was also format (PhD, 2002).

He obtained a Venia Legendi in Romanische Philologie at the Universität des Saarlandes (Saarbrücken, D).

He has lectured, lectured or spent research periods in various European (among others Berlin-Freie, Warsaw, Erlangen-Nürnberg, Tübingen) and American (UC-Los Angeles, Indiana University-Bloomington, Upenn-Philadelphia) universities.

He deals with issues between linguistic history and literary history, with Italian and Romance linguistics, with problems and methods of Romance philology. Author of a hundred scientific articles and a dozen volumes, he co-directed a History of Written Italian, published in six volumes by Carocci (2014-2021), and co-director, as part of a project financed by the Fns, a historical Vocabulary -etymological of the Venetian realized in collaboration with the Scuola Normale Superiore of Pisa and the OVI institute of the CNR of Florence.

He is a member of the Philological Commission of the Vocabulary of Dialects of Italian-speaking Switzerland.

Regular contributor of the literary pages of the Sole-24ore and Corriere del Ticino, member of the Jury of the Literati of the Campiello Literature Award.

Mondello Award for Critics (2021); Cesare Pavese award for non-fiction (2021).
