Dr. Lou Ann Bruno-Murtha is Division Chief of Infectious Diseases and Medical Director of Infection Prevention and Control at the Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA). She served as the technical advisor for the CHA Incident Command system and was a member of the COVID-19 Expert Advisory Panel for the city of Cambridge. Dr. Bruno-Murtha co-chairs the CHA COVID-19 Vaccine Task Force and is a member of CHAs COVID Management Team. She is actively engaged in educating communities about the value of COVID vaccination.
In collaboration with colleagues in Occupational Health at CHA, she has contributed to several publications on the manifestations of COVID-19 in healthcare workers and effective strategies for reducing the incidence of disease among the workforce. She holds an appointment as Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Bruno-Murtha serves on the Massachusetts Department of Public Health’s Technical Advisory Group for antimicrobial stewardship and surveillance for resistant bacteria. She is a member of the Society of Healthcare Epidemiology of America, where she serves on a task force for community-based healthcare epidemiologists, the Infectious Diseases Society of America, serving on the Diagnostic Committee and the American College of Physicians. Dr. Bruno-Murtha takes tremendous pride in mentoring colleagues in infectious diseases and healthcare epidemiology, as well as aspiring physicians and students to encourage pursuit of infectious diseases and healthcare epidemiology.
Dr. Bruno-Murtha received her DO degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-School of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed an Internal Medicine residency at St. Vincent’s Hospital and Medical Center in Manhattan and a fellowship in Infectious Diseases at Boston University Medical Center. She is board certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases.
