Dr. Louis J. Aronne, M.D. & FACP, has been an Advisor of PureTech Health plc since October 13, 2016. Dr. Aronne is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer and Director of BMIQ. He served as a consultant in the development of the Veterans Administration MOVE program, the nation’s largest medically based weight control program. Dr. Aronne served as Scientific Advisor of Medical Weight Loss Specialists at GI Dynamics, Inc. He served as the Chairman of Medical Advisory Board at MYOS Corp. (alternate name: MYOS RENS Technology Inc.) since July 2011. He has been an Independent Director and Member of Scientific Advisory Board of MYOS RENS Technology Inc. since July 2011. He has been a Member of Scientific Advisory Board at Gelesis, Inc. since March 2015. He serves as a Member of Clinical Advisory Board at ZafGen, Inc. He has been a Director of Jamieson Wellness Inc. April 22, 2014. He served as a Member of Scientific Advisory Board at Manhattan Pharmaceuticals, Inc. He was the President of the Obesity Society (formerly NAASO). Dr. Aronne is the current Chairman of the American Board of Obesity Medicine. Dr. Aronne is former president of the Obesity Society and Vice Chairman of the American Board of Obesity Medicine. He is a Director of the Comprehensive Weight Control Program, a multidisciplinary obesity research and treatment program affiliated with New York Presbyterian Hospital, which he founded in 1986. He is the Sanford I. Weill Professor of Metabolic Research/Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at Weill-Cornell Medical College where he directs the Comprehensive Weight Control Center. He is Adjunct Associate Clinical Professor of Clinical Medicine at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. He has a long and distinguished career of obesity research and treatment. His research focuses on the nervous system's response to weight changes. He lectured extensively on obesity and is widely published in numerous respected scientific and medical journals. As a Clinical Investigator for both sibutramine and orlistat, he has been directly involved in the clinical development of the two major, currently-available pharmaceutical treatments for obesity. He has performed more than 50 clinical trials of novel obesity treatments. He edited the NIH Practical Guide to Obesity Treatment. He is an Author or Co-Author of 8 leading textbook chapters on obesity, as well as the best selling book Weigh Less, Live Longer. He has authored or co-authored more than 60 papers and edited the NIH Guide to the Identification, Evaluation and Treatment of Overweight and Obesity. He is a Member of Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha honor societies. Dr. Aronne is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, Alpha Omega Alpha, the American Diabetes Association and the North American Association for the Study of Obesity, where he developed the Practical Guide to the Identification, Evaluation and Treatment of Overweight and Obesity in Adults, in conjunction with the National institutes of Health and the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute. He was a Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation Fellow at New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center. He is a Council Member of the North American Association for the Study of Obesity. He has won several awards for teaching during his career including the Davidoff Society Prize from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and the Eliot Hochstein Teaching Award from Weill-Cornell Medical College. Since 2001 he has been ranked annually in Castle-Connelly’s Top Doctors in NY directory as a specialist in obesity and internal medicine. Dr. Aronne completed a residency in Internal Medicine at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and became a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine in 1984. He is a Phi Beta Kappa Graduate of Trinity College, where he received a B.S. in Biochemistry in 1977. He was awarded the M.D. from Johns Hopkins University Medical School in 1981.
