Brookings Institution

Luiz Pinto was a joint visiting fellow at the Brookings Doha Center and Qatar University. He specializes in economic policy analysis, international macroeconomics, financial markets, economic development and public sector reforms. He is also a co-founder and managing director of the advisory firm Brics Overseas.

Previously, Pinto was a post-doctoral scholar at Columbia University in New York and advised several different official institutions, including the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) and the Institute for Applied Economic Research at the Presidency of Republic of Brazil (IPEA).

His current research concentrates on economic policy alternatives for the countries of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC) in the context of adjustments to the oil price crash of 2014-2015, focusing particularly on macroeconomic policies, current account dynamics, reserve management and the effects of financial integration.
