Biography

Maaruf Ali received the first degree in telecommunications from Queen Mary University of London, in 1989, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical and electronic engineering from King’s College London, University of London, U.K., in 1997. He was a Senior Lecturer in network engineering with the University of Suffolk and part-time with the University of Essex. He is currently an Associate Professor with the International Association for Educators and Researchers (IAER), London, U.K. He has 20 years of teaching experience, 18 years being at various English universities, including a year teaching Vodafone and Motorola Engineering, and over two years in Saudi Arabia and China.

He has published over 100 research papers. His recent experiences include being the: Programme Leader in Mobile Computing and Communications at Hangzhou Dianzi University, China, for the University of East London. U.K., and the Acting Vice Dean of scientific research at the University of Ha’il, Saudi Arabia, for the College of Computer Science and Engineering. He has also been an External Examiner with Computer Science for Middlesex University, U.K., HKUSPACE, Hong Kong, and the Dublin Institute of Technology, Ireland, and a Programme Validator of Kaplan Institute, Singapore. His research interests include computer user interface, image processing, and coding, location-based services, and mobile communications.

He has also examined 20 Ph.D. students, 16 as an external examiner, both nationally and internationally. He is a Member of the IET, ACM, IAENG, ASDF, and the Internet Society and a Professional Educator (PE) of the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE). He is also registered with the Engineering Council of the UK and a Chartered Engineer. He was elected the IEEE Region 8 Communications Society of the UK and Republic of Ireland Treasurer (from Secretary) before resigning to work overseas. He was also the Chair of the IEE Berkshire Specialist Branch on Electronics, Control, Computing, and Communications Committee, a Member of the IET Oxfordshire Branch and the IET Oxford Brookes University Student Counsellor.
