Overview
Maria C. Figueroa is Director of Labor and Policy Research at the Worker Institute, Cornell University-School of Industrial and Labor Relations. Maria''s work has involved applied research and technical assistance in the area of low wage and contingent (or precarious) work. She has worked in several projects commissioned by unions, employer groups, government agencies, and private foundations. Maria has more than 25 years of experience in labor and industry research, having worked as a senior analyst and researcher for national and international organizations, including the Teamsters union and the United Nations.

Maria Figueroa is Assistant Professor in Governance of Innovation for Climate and Sustainability. She is currently Post-Doc Fellow working on the Sustainability of Public Private Partnerships at the Department. She conducts research on comparative assessments of effectiveness of alternative policy instruments and organizational forms influencing innovation for climate and sustainability. She is interested in forms of government intervention that can favour social entrepreneurship in energy innovation particularly in the transport sector; and also in the development of comparative analytical frameworks to strengthen knowledge building processes necessary to meet the challenges of a democratic transition to low carbon sustainable society.
She is involved in a number of large international studies dealing with global energy and climate challenges. She has been a Lead author to the Transport Chapter of the Fifth Assessment report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and worked as Convenient Lead Author in the Global Energy Assessment published by Cambridge 2012. She co-edited the book “A New Sustainability Agenda” published by Ashgate in 2010.
