Biography
ESADE Business School
María José Esteban has been a Lecturer in the ESADE Department of Law since 2014 and a researcher affiliated to the Harvard Law School Center on the Legal Profession since 2011. Her research focuses on the area of innovation, the strategic analysis of quality and the organisation of professional bodies. She is the current Co-Director of the Big Four Research Project at the Harvard Law School Center on the Legal Profession. She is a professor of Mercantile Law and the subject, The Future of Legal Professions, in the Master''s, BBA and Executive Education programmes.
As an attorney, she specialises in Mercantile Law and has been a partner at the Bufete Escura law firm since 1999. Previously, she served as Director of the Legal Department for Situbsa, a leading company in the automotive industry, and she worked in the London offices of the Stephenson Harwood law firm.

Professor Esteban is an expert in the economic, social, and regulatory analysis of legal services and the legal profession. She serves as Senior Research Fellow at the Harvard Law School’s Center on the Legal Profession and, since 2011, co-directs the Center’s Big Four in Law Research Project, a continuing research initiative which examines the reemergence of the Big Four’s legal offerings and the development of a new model of “globally integrated business solutions”. Her most recent contribution consists of research commissioned by the International Bar Association’s Future of Legal Services Commission (formerly Presidential task force on the Future of Legal Services) aimed at facilitating practitioners’ understanding of the most relevant factors driving change in legal services.
