Managing interdisciplinarity in the Danish upper-secondary school

In recent years, there has been an increased commitment to interdisciplinarity in knowledge production and education. Contemporary emphasis on interdisciplinarity, however, raises a number of challenges when it comes to unfolding an interdisciplinary engagement in practice.

In my PhD project, I study how interdisciplinarity is organized and managed in the Danish upper-secondary school, where interdisciplinarity was introduced with a reform in 2005.

I study the multiple forms of this interdisciplinary engagement through ethnographic fieldwork in two schools, following current policy work and in an historical investigation of the debates on interdisciplinarity in science and education.

Primary research areas

  • Interdisciplinarity
  • Public Management (primarily school management)
  • Sociology of knowledge
  • STS (Science, technology and society)
  • Management, work life and welfare technologies in Danish elderly care
