Experience

In over 20 years as a trainer and experiential educator, Marin has worked with a wide variety of organizations including corporations, schools, colleges, and nonprofit organizations. Since joining the Center for Creative Leadership (CCL®), she has focused on organizational leadership initiatives aimed at incorporating leadership development into the organizational culture. She also designs and facilitates leadership development trainings for a wide variety of educational clients. Marin has taught undergraduate and graduate courses on the theory, philosophy, and practice of experiential education. Marin also designs and facilitates facilitator training programs for professional trainers and educators.

Current Role

Marin Burton is a Senior Faculty member for the Societal Advancement Division within the Center for Creative Leadership. She specializes in leadership program development, design and facilitation training with an intentional focus on engaged pedagogies. She leads faculty development initiatives as well as concentrates on relationship management and culture change initiatives. As a trainer, Marin draws from her community, business and academic acumen and offers a dynamic, learner-centered experience. In her facilitation role, she brings energy and intentional focus to training and development in experiential and engaged teaching methodologies, as well as focus on leadership development for individuals and groups.

Educational Background

Marin earned a B.A. in Communications with a Business Minor from the University of Wisconsin and a M.S. in Educational Leadership and Experiential Education from Minnesota State University. Marin earned a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Cultural Studies from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Marin has a passion for social justice and equity and examined this passion in her doctoral work. Her dissertation explores the philosophy of experiential education and how its practice can work toward aims of social justice. Marin has also served as adjunct faculty at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Professional Affiliations

Currently, Marin serves the experiential education community in various volunteer leadership positions within the Association for Experiential Education. Marin has also served as a keynote speaker for several educational and leadership organizations demonstrating her passion for meaningful leadership education
