Mario Cuixart

I was raised in Badalona, a seaside city close to Barcelona. After four years of working as a financial auditor, I took a gap year volunteering for an NGO in Colombia. That was a great experience that turned my attention to the social sector. When I came back to Barcelona in 2006, I joined the recently created Germina Foundation, a not-for-profit organization that offers support and opportunities to children, youth, and families from a socially disadvantaged background. As the founding director, I have been leading the development and growth of its projects. We are now replicating such successful models by opening new branches in Barcelona and Madrid.

I believe that education is the key to social change, especially when dealing with the vulnerable people of our cities, where inequality and the difficulty in accessing opportunities grow day after day. Improving educational levels and providing secure environments to such people is the mission where I put my efforts, so they can look for these opportunities by themselves and care for the others.
