Mark Caine coordinates energy and climate change policy research for the Mackinder Programme for the Study of Long Wave Events, an LSE research centre dedicated to political economy, geopolitics, and long-wave trends. Mark has conducted research on the impact of ‘austerity measures’ in the United Kingdom on the structure and function of the UK''s emergency management system; energy modernisation in the developing world, specifically technical and policy aspects of historical electrification efforts in Brazil, India, China, South Africa, and Ethiopia; and the political economic of large-scale hydraulic power projects.
