UW Professional & Continuing Education
Mark Joselyn has spent 35 years as a cartographer and GIS practitioner supporting biologists, hydrologists, forest ecologists and other natural resource professionals with maps and spatial analysis. He is considered an “ecologist whisperer” by his colleagues. Joselyn received his B.A. in geography from the University of Minnesota in 1983 with a minor in cartography. He was a teaching assistant in geography at the University of Washington from 1983 to 1985 and first began working with Esri software as an undergraduate in 1981 when it was known as the Polygon Information Overlay System (PIOS).
Joselyn spent 13 years at the Illinois Natural History Survey in Urbana, IL, before accepting his current position with the Watershed Management Division of Seattle Public Utilities in 2001. In his current capacity, Joselyn provides GIS and cartographic support to the entire division, helping to fulfill the team’s mission of providing pristine drinking water to more than 1.5 million Puget Sound residents
