Biography
Said Business School
Marta is a teacher and consultant in the fields of Negotiation and Influence. She is also a researcher in Behavioural Economics, a field which fascinates her.
Marta holds a BSc and an MSc in Economics, as well as a PhD in Behavioural Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). Marta opted early on for a career in the academia which she has complemented with consulting engagements.
Marta has been a staff member of the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), where she led a very successful Negotiation course for several years. Marta is also a staff member of the Oxford Programme on Negotiation and of a Customised Negotiation Programme at Saïd Business School. Her work on Negotiation and Decision Making has been widely acknowledged and are central to her teaching and consulting work.
Marta’s research is dedicated to the study of over-optimism and over-confidence and its implications for economic decisions making. The themes of her research are central themes in the area of Behavioural Economics as evidenced by the reference to her work by the Nobel Prize winner in Economics, Daniel Kahneman, in his book Thinking Fast and Slow.
In addition to teaching and research, Marta also acts as a consultant and executive coach. Her past consulting experience includes work for the Portuguese pharmaceutical industry and Public Authorities, but her current focus is consulting in the fields of Negotiation and Influence.
Marta is also a Permanent Member of the Supervisory Board of Corticeira Amorim, the world leader in the cork industry.
