Biography

University of Cape Town

I am a Professor in the School of Economics at the University of Cape Town. I teach econometrics at the post-graduate level. I also direct DataFirst, a unit specializing in the dissemination and preservation of data from African socioeconomic surveys.

Before moving to UCT, I spent a decade teaching at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg and a year as visiting Professor at Princeton. More recently I spent a year's sabbatical at Yale.

My main research is in the area of data quality of household surveys, and the analysis of inequality and labour markets in South Africa.
