Matthew Martin is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Physics at New York University Abu Dhabi. He earned his PhD degree in Physics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 2010 and a BSc degree in Physics from Union College in 2006.

His research is in the fields of soft condensed matter physics and colloid chemistry, focusing on the basic science and applications of nanoscale materials. He designs new nanoparticle synthesis, self-assembly, and measurement methods for metal nanoparticles that have wide potential to generate new technologies in the fields of biomedicine, electronics, and materials.

Before joining NYUAD, he was an Assistant Professor of Physics at Khalifa University, leading a diverse laboratory consisting of material scientists, chemists, biomedical and mechanical engineers, and physicists tackling cutting-edge nanomaterials challenges. Previously, he held a joint postdoctoral fellowship between The University of Maryland, College Park, and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (UMD NIST-ARRA), where he worked in the Material Measurement Laboratory.
