Biography

Professor Maass holds a joint appointment GSIS/UIC at Yonsei University since fall 2008. Previously, he had taught in Singapore (National University of Singapore), USA (Hawai’i Pacific University), Korea (Seoul National University), France (American University of Paris and American Graduate School of International Relations and Diplomacy), and Vietnam (Institute of International Relations). He served as Research Fellow and Project Manager at INSEAD in France, Director of Overseas Programs at Becker College in Massachusetts/USA, and Program Manager of The Fletcher School’s Diplomatic Training Program (also USA). Professor Maass received his education in Germany, Australia, and the USA. Prior to embarking on an academic career, he worked at a commercial bank.

Professor Maass’ research is focused on small states and the states system, and on US foreign policy. Further areas of expertise are International Relations Theory, the history of international relations, European political history and current affairs, and security on the Korean Peninsula.
