Melissa Selverian, Ph.D., is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Communication and Media. Dr. Selverian also teaches in West Chester University’s Marketing Department, in Temple University’s Media and Studies Production Department, and in Drexel University’s Department of Communication. Her teaching and research areas focus primarily on the concept of telepresence, the illusion of nonmediation, and its relationship to learning, psychological processing, and popular culture. She has researched and published extensively in these areas and presented at many academic and professional conferences. Her publications include the peer-reviewed textbook, “Teaching and Learning with Technology: Beyond Constructivism” (Routledge), the journal issue “New Media in Education” (Electronic Journal of Communication), and the journal article “Telepresence: A ‘Real’ Component in a Model to Make HCI Factors Meaningful in the Virtual Learning Environment” (Themes in Science and Technology Education: Virtual Reality in Education). Dr. Selverian has worked in journalism, public relations and marketing in the corporate, non-profit and government sectors. She holds a B.A. from Villanova University, and an M.A. and a Ph.D. from Temple University.
