Michael McGough

President M2 Engineer / Adjunct Professor

Biography

Approaches building design with creativity, passion and technical expertise. With over 30 years of experience designing MEP systems for commercial, hospitality, civic, education and cultural facilities, he contributes a unique perspective that focuses on balancing the client’s needs, user comfort, energy use and costs. Experienced managing large scale commercial, educational and cultural portfolio, with early work including the award-winning LEED Platinum rated Genzyme Headquarters in Cambridge, MA, with international experience in Central Europe, India and the Middle East.

Prior to establishing M2 Engineer, PC, Michael was a partner at Buro Happold Engineer, PC (2008-2017), after having been at Laszlo Bodak Engineer, PC for 20 years.

2006 – 2016 Columbia University, Member of the Mechanical Engineering Department “External Advisory Board”

2010 Harvard University, Lecturer in the Graduate School of Design, teaching “Thermal Performance and Comfort in Buildings” course.

2007 – 2010 Columbia University, Adjunct Professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department of the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, teaching graduate level course “Energy Dynamics of Green Buildings”

Presentations/Speaker/Publication

Extensive presentations on sustainability in the build environment. Has presented at several ASHRAE, AIA and Green Building Salons, including Daylight Enhancement Systems for Genzyme at GreenBuild International Conference and Expo with a follow-up 10-year perspective at Boston ABX. Recently presented LEED Platinum, resilient MacArthur Elementary School at NESEA “BuildingEnergy Boston” Conference.

Author of abstract “Energy Dynamics of Green Buildings, an Alternative to the Traditional Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning Course,” in ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition, Innovative Curricula category (Fall, 2009)
