Michelle’s research interests are in corporate governance, governance structures, including social network effects, monitoring, minority shareholder expropriation and financial disclosure. She has several papers with settings in Asian capital markets.
Her dissertation investigated the use of status as a mechanism to control corporate boards around two Hong Kong regulations that increase board independence, and specifically examined shifts in within-board relative status and financial reporting.
She has co-authored papers that examine minority shareholder expropriation and financial disclosure in Hong Kong/China settings. She also has a project examining synergies between corporate governance and information technology governance in a U.S. setting.
Her honors and grants include being a co-investigator of a Hong Kong University Grants Council GRF Grant, Best Paper Award at the 2017 Symposium of Accounting, Auditing and Corporate Governance Practices in China and a recipient of the Hong Kong Postgraduate Fellowship Award.
