USC Marshall School of Business

Mick Swartz has been an Associate Professor in the Finance and Business Economics Department at The University of Southern California for 14 years. He has a Phd in Finance with an Econometrics Minor from the University of Iowa. He has 14 publications with 5 research awards and 12 teaching awards. He teaches Investments, Derivatives, Risk Management,Hedge Fund Strategies, Corporate Finance and Corporate Governance at the undergraduate, MBA, MS Finance and EMBA programs. Mick has appeared on television (NBC, NPR and CNN) and many radio programs as an expert in Finance and Derivatives and Risk Management. He has testified and worked on financial legislation in areas related to Dodd-Frank, CEO compensation, investment strategies, hedge funds, financial crisis, bail outs, derivatives, SWAPS, options, retirement planning and the general economic environment. He has taught in many international programs including Australia, China, UK, Germany, Chile, Thailand, Vietnam, Canada and presented research in over 40 conferences. Prior to USC, Mick taught at Purdue University for six years and at the University of Notre Dame. Mick was a Visiting Research Scholar at the University of Chicago. He received the ANBAR Award for the top 150 business publications. He has been a reviewer for journals and has published a textbook on Hedge Fund Strategies and Tools. He has been a speaker for community groups and consulted state legislators concerning executive compensation. He has given advice on merger legislation and was a pioneer on State Anti-takeover Legislation research which he presented at the American Finance Association Meetings.
